As you may be able to guess

if you look at my business name... I have a tender spot for the timeless. All it took is one inspo photo to pop up on my feed and I *knew* I had to make these heirloom sessions come to life.

When's the last time your wedding dress saw the light of day? Mine is tucked in a closet at my parents' house. I can't wait for the day my daughter can play "dress up" with that dress. But right now it's your turn.

In this blog, you'll find tips for making this limited-release session oh so special for you and your daughter.

What will these sessions include?

These are not mini sessions. You'll have twice as much time and receive twice as many images as a typical mini. Thirty minutes should give us a little wiggle room for getting younger ones to cooperate but not so much time that we lose their attention.

What ages are welcome?

Any age is welcome. That said, I think 3-12 is the sweet spot. The child will ideally be able to follow simple DIRECTIONS to have the best experience. I tend to think this would be age 3 at minimum but if you are okay with a more free-flowing session involving your toddler, I am 100% down for it if you are!

Can other family members be included?

Mom is encouraged to participate! And if you have more than one daughter, you can book a single time slot. Sorry, no family portraits - this one's for the girls! I encourage moms to wear something that can be photographed so that we can get a sweet shot of you helping your daughter into the veil & dress.

Will these be available in the future?

This is a passion project so no guarantees! But if enough interested is generated, I may offer these again in August 2025.

selecting wardrobe for this session

is about as easy as it gets! Your daughter should wear something that will not distract from your dress. I recommend white, ivory, or pastel shirt and shorts/skirt. A very simple dress or slip would work as well. Ideally it should be something that will allow her to easily step into your dress (or have the dress placed over her head, depending on the style).

Remember that we want the wedding dress to be the focal point of the image while keeping your little one modest for the photographs. Below are some wardrobe ideas with links.

Oh and shoes are optional! I personally prefer barefoot for these!

Let's talk props...

because this session is like a time capsule! These are images you'll bring out on the day your daughter gets engaged. The ones you'll show your grandchildren. Here are some memorabilia items you may want to bring:

  • Dress (of course!)
  • Veil or hairpiece
  • Shoes
  • Framed wedding photo
  • Jewelry
  • Your "something blue"
  • Fresh or silk flowers that match your wedding colors

Your dress does not have to be perfectly clean along the hem. If it has significant staining on the top of the dress (the part that will be photographed), you will want to have it cleaned ahead of time.

Please have both dress and veil steamed and ready to go when you arrive.

now for mommy:

You do not have to be in any of the photos. That said, I would love it if you were. I would love to snap photos as you fasten the pearls, adjust the veil, help her step into the dress. I think this is such a moving part of these storytelling sessions.

Wear what feels right to you. When I do these with my daughter, I plan to wear jeans or linen pants/shorts and a white tee or button-up.

The focus will be on the interaction between you and your daughter, not on your attire. The goal is something that is classic but not distracting. I do suggest leaning towards light colors over dark. The whole scene will be very "light and bright" so dark colors will add a bit too much contrast.
