What to expect from your headshot experience
Unless arranged otherwise, headshot sessions are typically held at The Creative Photographer in Spring, TX. This is a membership studio, which means my studio time will begin at our session time start. I live right around the corner from the studio, so don't worry if you arrive 10 minutes early and don't see me yet! Please wait in your car until the session time begins.
When we enter the studio, we'll spend the first few minutes hanging up your wardrobe selections and talking through which outfits coordinate best with which backdrops. You'll get to preview some of the backdrop options below which can be helpful as you think through your wardrobe!
We will consider your business sector in determining how to set up and frame your portraits. If you work in oil & gas, finance, etc., we’ll stick to very traditional headshot parameters -- torso only and black, white, or other neutral backdrops. If you are a party planner, by contrast, we may take a less traditional approach to reflect the creativity of your business, incorporating fun pops of your brand colors or even props, if desired.
I encourage clients to bring several wardrobe options. When deciding what to wear, a good rule of thumb is to “dress for the next job up the ladder.” For example, if you typically dress casually, wear a blouse or collared shirt. If you typically would wear a blouse or collared shirt, take the next step up and add a tie or blazer.
If you have a few extra minutes, I'd encourage you to read the next blog post linked at the bottom of this article that takes a deeper dive into selecting the right wardrobe for your session.
After your session, you will receive a proof gallery of lightly-edited images from which to make your selections. Your final gallery will be hand-edited and retouched. My approach to retouching is to “make you look like you on your best day.” If you have a particular request, please let me know this during the proof selection stage. Advanced retouching may be an additional charge.

Pink
Deb is a children's author so for her portrait, she was looking for something a little less traditional.

White
Sarah wanted to include a nod to her sector (myofunctional therapy) by including a prop in her headshot.

Charcoal
Dr. Onya added a white coat over her black dress for a high-impact yet easy wardrobe change.
Black
Matt was looking for a headshot with a high level of formality so we chose black with more dramatic lighting.
Black + light burst
We added a light burst to Matt's favorite proof to soften the look without needing an outfit change.
Off-white
Dr. Onya was looking for a light colored background option and because her coat was white, we opted for off-white ("bone").

Velvet black
This gorgeous wall adds a little depth to the image while keeping a very professional vibe.

Floral Wall
Less traditional but more fun! If your sector allows for a little creativity, a textured wall could be a great option.

Rose wall
Similar to the floral wall, this soft pink rose wall adds a softness and texture to your headshot without being too distracting.
