what's the eisenhower matrix got to do with photography?

I love the Eisenhower Matrix so much. As a classic Enneagram 3 / achiever-type-to-a-fault, this time management tool helps me direct my attention and energy towards the things that matter most. Here's an example:

Imagine you’re making up your list of things to do in your personal and/or professional life. Fold the laundry, answer emails, schedule a kid’s dental appointment, sort through a pile of junk mail, and on and on. If you’ve ever felt the overwhelm of wondering where to begin, what you need is a system for determining urgency and priority. Enter: The Eisenhower Matrix.

In this system, you have four categories AND different direction for what to do with the tasks that fall into each category:

  • Important & Urgent - do first
  • Important & Not Urgent - schedule
  • Not Important & Urgent - delegate
  • Not Important & Not Urgent - delete or do quickly

Successful people spend as much time as possible doing the “Important & Not Urgent” because in this category, you are intentionally budgeting your time according to your values.

How about you? Is this a useful tool for your family and business?
