you booked a milestone session! here's what to expect:
Way to go, parent! Not only are you successfully ushering your child into another year of life (*whew* not an easy task) but you ALSO scheduled a portrait session for him/her! Pat yourself on the back.
Milestone sessions are rather like shadow boxes... they can contain all the little things that have characterized the past months. In my experience, props are just as meaningful for these sessions as they are for senior sessions. We’re telling a story - the story of your child.
Here are a few ideas for things you might want to bring:
- Sitter session
- Favorite toy
- Lovey or baby blanket
- Paci or teether
- First birthday
- Smash cake & baby wipes for cleanup
- Framed newborn photo (without the glass)
- Balloon garland, marquee “1”, or party hat
- Sentimental items (coming home swaddle, favorite toy, etc.)
- Milestone birthdays
- Balloons
- Number marquee (rental available from Craft The Moment Party Co - tell her I'm your photographer and she'll waive the delivery fee because I'll bring it to your session!)
- Favorite toys, stuffies, and/or hobbies
Depending on which session you booked, you may be able to incorporate an outfit change or two as well. A good rule of thumb with younger children is to plan one “look” (outfit + accompanying prop) per 30 minute time slot. If you booked a Simple Session, for example, plan 2 looks and bring one backup. If you booked a Classic Session, you may be able to fit in 3-4 looks. (You do not have to incorporate outfit changes unless you want to!)
