you booked a mini! here's what to expect:

Minis are fun but quick! I'll have a workflow of poses to ensure we get plenty of variety within our allotted time. If you have a particular pose in mind that is a top priority for you (for example, individual portrait of each child, smiling family photo for Christmas card, etc.) please feel free to let me know in advance.

Unlike a freestanding session, we cannot add extra time to your mini session. For the best experience, plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early so have time to do that last-minute diaper change, hair check, and/or pep talk for kids before your session time starts!

For select mini sessions, I will have a recommended wardrobe (if so, I'll send that to you separately). For others, you can let your personality and creativity take the wheel.

Don’t be afraid to go with a theme and take outfit cues from the mini session set:

  • Is it a bed? Dress everyone in matching PJs and expect to get all cozy piled in the bed for family portraits!
  • Is it outdoors? A classic dressy look is always a hit.
  • Is it a simple studio set? Consider following those simple cues and putting everyone in jeans and coordinating tees or glam it up and go black-tie-optional.

Feel free to reach out if you need a second opinion on what to wear. If choosing a dress, keep in mind that knee length can allow for more posing flexibility (for example, seated poses).

If you haven't done so already, be sure to read the portrait session prep guide before your session and browse through the color palette inspo in this blog if you need some wardrobe ideas.
